A conversation with my oldest daughter sticks in my mind. We had been reminiscing about our South East.Asia trip earlier this year. She asked me if I had been expecting a vacation.
My reply was, “With you…nothing is a Vacation”
There was a delay… then I finished with “Just hanging out with you is an Adventure!” we both laughed.
So, everything I write is through my perspective and opinion. Believe what you will, nothing is fact until proven, so with that said….
I contemplate life, a lot. So this conversation stuck in my head, with wandering thoughts of vacation and adventure.
My idea of a vacation is doing nothing. In other words… a vacation is “Just being & enjoying the moment”. For instance, sitting on a comfortable chair on a sunny UN-crowded beach, a cooler of cold drinks, yummy snacks, a good book, music, sand bucket, umbrella, a bathroom nearby, and of course my best buddy along to share the experience.
So really… I could be at home in a cozy chair with a book, music, fridge, with a bathroom nearby, and still be on “Vacation”, right? Not quite.
The difference, of course, would be missing out on a spectacular ocean view, fresh cool breezes, waves curling up then sucking out, warmth of the sun, a sandy carpet, and best of all, observing the variety of beach life and happenings. As I call it … #Life in 3D.
The “Vacation” would have to include some fun activities like snorkeling, fishing, para-sailinga, and stuff like that. Also on the agenda, a visit to museums, area attractions, and getting the taste of new foods and meeting new people.
On the whole, we deserve to relax, enjoy, and just BE — everyday, but that might get boring. Life, of course, is about” living”, and we each have our own definition of that.
I recently discovered the difference between the “Vacation” and the “Adventure”. Basically, Vacations are temporary escapes. Adventures are life-building journeys where the comfort zone is tested.
