The “M” Trail is at the south end of Bridger Canyon, on Baldy Mountain in Bozeman.
You can see theMassive ”M” from several miles away, it is 250 ft of rocks painted white, and was
built by Montana State Students in 1915.
To get there from downtown Bozeman, head north on North Rouse Avenue 4.2 miles to the trail head sign, it is located
across from the fish hatchery. By the way, after you cross Griffin Drive, Rouse turns into Bridger Canyon Drive/ Hwy 86.
Once parked, enter the trail to the northwest. You will have two choices. You can go straight up the trail to the right for half a mile to the top or
take the trail to the left for 1.3 miles which meaders through meadows of flowers and forest. Then you can walk down the steep section of trail
or turn around after enjoying the incredible views while resting on the “M”, or just come back down the way you came.
This a wonderful hike for the whole family or a quick getaway for some alone time.
