An Oceanfront Wedding at the King and Prince!
The big day has arrived!
As I stare at the delicious breakfast choices that the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort offers, in the back of mind I KNOW I have to save room for the wedding dinner where a piece of Chocolate Kahlua Cheesecake will be waiting for me!
After a walk along the beach where the dolphins once again wave their greetings at Shelby and excite her even more, we head back to the Familia Meadows House and try to calm the nerves of the bride who’s beyond thrilled to have HER day arrive.
I watched the unbelievably professional staff work to make sure the event was the most memorable of Joy’s life; the oceanfront backdrop is absolutely magical.
The men folk headed to the King and Prince Golf Course to provide he groom with a little relaxation before he entered into the newest chapter of his life, and us women headed to the Royal Treatment Cottage for the perfect massage. (God…I NEVER want to leave this place!)
The girls are all buzzing with information on what they did yesterday on St. Simon’s Island; from historical site tours to dolphin cruises, fishing charters, trolley tours and strolling through shops and galleries that are part of the beautiful village. I glance at Shelby whose eyes are now wide with the knowledge that there are dolphin cruises! I knew she heard that, and now keeping her mind on a wedding will be almost impossible.
When I hear the soft, beautiful strings of the harp as the musician gets ready to serenade the bride down an aisle that’s decorated with flower petals, my heart races. The guests are seated, the bride is perfect, and everyone – except for Shelby who’s still staring at the ocean wishing she was a mermaid- are ready to go.
As the sky turns violet, I toss a nod at the groom who’s standing there with a smile that outshines the sun, and turn around to wait for Joy’s big entrance. The ceremony, the ambiance – everything is beyond perfect – as the vows are made and we make our way to the Delegal Dining Room - the formal dining room of the King and Prince. Staring through the large picture windows at the incredible view and admiring the antique stained glass, I memorize this incredible picture and ready myself for a meal that is unforgettable. In fact, the food makes it almost impossible to sit through the requisite speeches.
As the Maid of Honor it’s my place to congratulate Joy. Standing, I stare at the perfect flower arrangements set on each table, the tables and chairs decorated with soft pastel blue coverings…and dream about that cheesecake that will soon be mine. (Again, it’s vacation! Watching my weight is simply silly.)
As the party progresses, and the happy couple go off into the moonlit night, Shelby and I sit on that sandy beach – still warm from the sun – and stare up at the stars above.
“They have dolphin cruises.”
Oh, yeah…I knew this was coming.
“Can we come back here?”
I see the hope radiating in Shelby’s eyes. And, I am a writer, after all. I really should learn as much about St. Simon’s as possible. Who knows? I may need ideas for a new book.
I smile at my girl. “Come back? Kid, we’re not leaving yet!”
Her smile outshines the moon.
“Let’s go see what other rooms they have, huh?” I laugh as she practically jumps into the air. “AND…” I whisper, as yet another happy couple smile and wave as they pass by, “Let’s get another piece of that cheesecake!”
The wedding weekend may be over, but our King and Prince Adventure Continues!
